Allegro Newbie Tutorial

I was surfing around today trying to find a site about Allegro Game Programming (besides mine) and I came across Loomsoft and there Allegro Newbie Tutorial Website. The website is layed out very nicely, with 9 chapters to teach you Allegro Game Programming.

Each page contains the Lessons Source Code so you can compile the Lesson examples on your own. Great way to learn.

If you are new to the Allegro game programming library and are looking for a place to start, well, you’ve hit the right place. Here, you’ll find tutorials for the total beginner, assuming you have installed Allegro but have no idea how to really use it. Each tutorial will have the code fully explained in webpage format, as well as have the source available for download: so delve in!

So if you looking for a great tutorials to learn Allegro, I would suggest visiting the Allegro Newbie Tutorial Website.

This is a great reference page for Allegro.  It basically shows you all the Functions in Allegro in one quick reference page.  I just tried to print it out, and it is approx. 13 pages.  This is an excellent resource when ever you are game programming in Allegro to keep next to your keyboard which will remind you of the available Allegro functions.

Visit the site if you like, but since it is public domain, I also made a PDF of it and am hosting it here.

Allegro Vivace

Allegro Vivace is a plain text Tutorial for the game programming library called Allegro.

It was created by George Foot a very long time ago, but it still holds true today, and is still one of the best resources for learning Allegro.   The way he explains everything is very simple to understand and if you looking to learn a game programming library, this is a very good library to start with, and this tutorial is your best bet to learn it.

Check out Allegro Vivace

George also made a tutorial to create the game Pong with Allegro, great help seeing a game get built from scratch.  George wrote that he would create others tutorials (Asteriods, Strategy Game, Platform Game), but I guess he never got around to it, as have checked back periodically over the last couple of years and I haven’t seen any updates.  Too bad, would have like to get a good tutorial on how to make  a Strategy Game with Allegro.
